Talking A project in the near future

Hey guys now that I have my stang I am dying to find out how to make it faster, gradually tho so I can adjust to the power changes and I've decided with-in the next year or so I am going to boost it. My brother has a sts ls1 trans am that is just a monster now, and he put me in the direction of going sts because he is familiar with the system and me and him hooking it up wont be an issue. But as we talked more and more about it I relized just because I have 300 whp dosnt mean the rest of the car can take that power, and I decided I wanna do the works on it, I know its gonna cost alot of money I just wanna start my homework on it now. But let me cut to the chase what transmission can bolt straight to the 4.0 v6 that can handle the strain of 10 psi or more and is there a way I can get a ford 9 inch that will fit the car, because my brother thinks that alot of the suspension from a gt can go to a v6 body because they are similar and I would REALLY like to know if that is true because of the large amount of aftermarket gt suspension parts. Any information you guys give me will be greatly apreciated thanks.

v6 and GT are generally direct fits. Depends on the exact part.

I believe the Auto tranny can handle plenty of horsepower, or at least enough from an STS.
You may consider getting a new rear axle from a GT, that will run you you 1k+..some say your current axle is too weak, although if you stay away from a T-LOK it should be able to handle the power just fine since it's only going to one wheel.

Well I found a 8.8 svt rearend that someone said will fit a v6 with a custom drive shaft but thats expected. But with the tranny everyone I've talked to said ford transmission dont really cut it, and I some what agree because I already needed tranny work on my stock tranny, thats what I am a tad afraid to put that power with to my tranny, but couldnt I get a transmission from a gt350? If that make auto tannys for thoes.

If you really wanted to go different, you could go along the lines of getting the 6060, strong transmission, very smooth as well, then you need to change the final gear to 4.10(obviously in at least an 8.8) to help compensate for that sixth gear and then with a 4 inch driveshaft. You will have an impressive driveline that you won't have to worry about.

Also to note, to swap to a 3650 or 6060 whatever you want outside of the basic parts needed for a tranny swap you will need the adapter plate and that runs around $600 or so.

Yes the axle mounting points are the same between the 8.8 and 7.5 so fitment is not a problem.

You will want an 8.8 rear end out of a GT.
Without it you will have 300 hp going to one wheel.. good luck getting traction.
You can find deals out there, just check your local Craigslist and the forum classified sections. I just picked up an 8.8 w/ 3.55 gears for $350 locally.

I would look into front and rear sway bars. I know my V6 is all over the road after 110 mph, so that may help.

Well I decided I like the 8.8 with 31 spline axles and a lsd with t-lok idea, but isnt the 6060 a straight drive, not a auto. I need a auto because it the car is a auto and I dont feel like doing the swap it will be alot more money that wont really give me a huge gain. But it would be a great idea because of the durablity.

Yea that would increase the price then, people still do swap automatic to manual, more goes into it then swapping a manual for auto however. The auto tranny is still plenty capable of maintaining the power you want to apply through it or it would'nt be installed in the gt as well.
