Yeah, it's worth it. Seems a little pricey, but you shouldn't rush it if you don't feel comfortable just yet. It took me about a year from when I discovered the aftermarket for myself til I bought the tuner just cuz it seemed so pricey to me as well. Once I got it, I regretted waiting so long. I was tired of getting my *** handed to me by just about everything out there (except ricers, they always get their asses handed to them). Once I got the tune, I started beating a few cars I didn't have a chance with before. I still get smoked every now and then, don't get me wrong, but at least it can step up to a few more cars now.

Yeah, i mean a good tuner is like 400 bucks. If it makes that big of difference id really consider it. I still wanna do a few other things as well too.

Depending on what those "other things" are, you may NEED a tuner.

The stock TB's on both the 4.0 and 4.6 are more than up to the task unless you do some serious internal mods and/or go FI. Don't go messing with an aftermarket TB since you'll get no gains and the installs have been troublesome.

Getting a custome tune on my mostly stock mustang (asside from a dual exhaust set up) felt like I was driving a completely different car. The 93 Octane Race tune felt unreal.
