Default 2013 V6 Test Drive De-Acceleration Issue

I've test driven a 2012 GT and 2013 V6 and what i noticed about the V6 is the lack of deacceleration (after I take my foor off the accelerator). Both were manual 6-speeds but the V6 seemed to behave more like an automatic with my foot off the accelerator (in any gear) and did not engine-brake nearly as much as the V8. Can you guys tell me why this is (or could it be my imagination)?

No ideas from the forum eh? I guess part of the difference could be the 10.5:1 vs 11:1 compression ratio difference and maybe also the way the V6 is tuned (for better fuel economy).

The 3.7 shuts off the gas when coasting, and It may adjust the timing the valves so the car coasts really well. It takes a little bit of driving to get used to it. You actually get getter mileage coasting to a stop than taking it out of gear.

Sounds about right for a smaller displacement, low friction engine...

It could also be the heavy dual mass flywheel. I have an aluminum flywheel now and it decelerates quickly.

Hey JimJam, could you go into a little detail of your impression of the 2012 GT vs. the 2013 V6? (besides the fact the 5.0 probably felt like it had a lot more kick). Did they pretty much have the same options too? I'm kind of thinking of one or the other too, but most likely a base GT or V6 with a couple options like upgraded seats and gears.

Hey Bob,
I drove a 2012 GT Premium and a 2013 V6 Premium with the Pony Package (both stick) so the options were pretty much the same. Definitely more of an adrenaline ride in the GT. They say that the sound system improved from 2012 to 2013 but I didn't hear a great differerence - maybe it was the choice of music.
What I didn't like about the 2012 GT was the (optional) hood scoop; it hindered my field of vision and otherwise bothered me. I like everything about the V6 Premium Pony Package and it still comes out about 6K less than the GT so that's what I aim to buy. Found a dealer in CA selling below invoice so the price is right, just working some things out before I buy (or order it).

Default hanging rpms

Hanging rpms after fullthat throttle is a known issue/feature. It is there (afaik)to reduce emissions and can be/is buy a tune.

Sounds like a spot-on explanation - thanks David.

So that also sounds like some kind of poor man's rev matching too. Do autos being shifted manually do the same thing?
