Default 2005 v6 Running hot

2005 v6 was running hot, then would run normal for a few weeks. Fianlly syatyed to leak and replaced the upper and lower thermostat housings and thermostat. Sealed it up with rtv and the leak disappeared. FIlled full of coolant, ran it for twenty minutes no prob. Shut it off topped off more coolant and then statred it and it was redlined on the temp gauge. Water pump turns and heat blows, no clue now. Any ideas?

Might have a air pocket in the system.

Is your fan kicking on?
I have a small leak in my thermostat housing....need to get it fixed. I have issues with my temperature gauge not working when it is 60 degrees or cooler. The temp gauge sometimes gets stuck at the halfway mark. When i start the car and it warms up, the gauge will go to HOT, even though it is fine. I had the mechanic check out everything and it turns out the stepper motor is most likely going bad. I have issues with my RPM gauge as well. Some days it is off by 200 RPM - 500 RPM, again, stepper motor going bad.

Yes, fan is kicking on normally, thought maybe an air bubble but with the Degase Tank i doubt thats possible. Was thinking it might be the motor in the temp gauge but that seems a bit weird

Have you had a mechanic do a test to confirm it is running hot?
BTW, 2005 mustangs are known to have stepper motor issues.

Yep, using the OEM gauge to diagnose problems can lead to more problems.
The housings have o-rings and the use of RTV is inadvisable.

You really need to chase this down when it is happening (getting hot).
An IR thermostat (cheap) can be indispensable
when chasing down cooling problems.
I think all is cool but the guage has gone bonkers.
It could be stepper motor time for your cluster.

Is the condensor in front of the radiator stuffed full of bugs and such?
Confirm you can see a flashlight thru it at night.
Is the upper or lower radiator air deflector(s) missing?
