Default Explorer 4.0 Vs Mustang 4.0L

Just was detailing my Explorer's engine (03) and noticed that the intake manifold is different than it is on my Mustang.

Are they the same engine otherwise? Just curious.

I believe the blocks are relatively the same, while the mustang has a different intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and maybe some mounting brackets?

Other than that, I think it's also some tuning and messing with the cams.

I think it depends on the year. Some were OHV as I recall, while ours were in fact sohc. But I think they stopped using the OHVs in 01?

The 4.0L block is essentially the same, and are in fact interchangeable. Sure, the intake, front cover, mounts, etc. are different.

I thought so. Are all SOHC from 1997 to 2010 the same ? Or just certain years?

There were two 4.0's...a 160 hp and the sohc version introduced in 2000 which was 210 hp?

They are the same block, but I believe just about everything else is different. My ex had a 2007 explorer with a 4.0 and I have a 2007 mustang with a 4.0 and the mustang has MUCH more power than the explorer. They are both OH cams, but the Intakes are visibly different

Gearing might be a bit more aggressive on the mustang, along with the OEM tuning. Probably why the stang feels faster. That, and the explorer must weight a lot more.
