Default Need help deciding v6 or v8

So I've decided I'm going to buy a used mustang 2011 or 2012 but I have yet to decide if I should get a v6 or v8. So today I went out with my dad and test drive both a v6 and v8 (automatics). First I got in the v6 and it felt nice and sturdy. Had pretty good acceleration but not as punchy as I thought it would be but maybe this was due to it being an automatic. I can't say for sure because I haven't driven the manual yet. It's speed reminded me of my aunts infiniti g37 (don't get me wrong Infiniti does make a v6) . Then I got into the gt and it was awesome. It was really punchy and accelerated well. My only concern is the escalated insurance rates for the gt. does anyone know a ball park figure of what the difference would be? This is for a 50 year old male. So I haven't decided exactly what I want yet because I'm not rich, but basically I was wondering if anyone regrets not getting a v8 that has a v6, or anyone who has a v8 that regrets not getting a v6. It anyone else with a good two cents.

Zach, if you are 50 years old and have a good driving record, don't worry about the rates on a GT. Sounds like to me you talked yourself into one. I say, "Go For It!"

I'm in my 40s and insurance is $1100 a year. MPG can be a factor for some people on choosing between a V8 and V6 but I say if you can afford it go with the GT.

There is no replacement for displacement! You only live once so go with the V8 and drive with a smile.

No question.. should be easy.. 5.0 V8 manual.. I know the new v6s are putting out some hp but it is still a v6 mustang. plus you cant beat the sound of a v8. GO FOR THE 5.0!

The only reason I chose the V6 over the V8 was economy. Every fiber of my being was screaming at me (well not really, it was the only white one on the lot, that made it hurt less) but my wallet was paying for it, and will continue to pay for it.

I commute 70 miles a day. That ten MPG difference between the V6 and V8 will make all the difference in the world. In the real world, the V6 will still get up and go, leave traffic behind and have all the punch a normal responsible adult needs to get where they are going.

However, if the fuel economy is not your concern, or the $10k difference in the price tag (most of the GTs I saw were well optioned, my V6 was plain jane) doesn't put you off, there is no question at all. Get the V8. You will regret the V6 if you don't have the same concerns that I did.

Well if you want an MPG comparison my 2013 GT gets 15.7 around town. It's never really had the chance to get on the freeway for long periods of time so I am sure that will improve some.

Biggest thing that drew me to the GT was the V8. Missed the V8 feel while my Mach1 is being restored. Got tired of driving a V6 truck wanted to be back in the seat of something that screams when you put your foot into its peddle.

The following is analagous to the 3.7 vs 5.0:

I bought an 07 GT (4.6L) and then bought my wife an 06 Pony (4.0L). Despite looking like 2 Mustangs, they drive so totally different that I don't care to be behind the wheel of her V6. As far as fuel economy, as long as you're not putting your foot into it often, the 5.0 (as well as the 4.6) can be a fuel miser.

I don't know what you consider a fuel miser but I've tried several different times in the 5.0 to hit the window stickers 17 city 26 hwy rating by driving as grandmotherly as possible for days at a time but it's a constant 14-15 city 21-22 hwy. Regular mixed driving average is about 18mpg. My low MPG could be because all the gas stations around here only sell the 10% ethanol mix.
