CAI & Bama Tuner or Sound system
#21
I'm sorry to cause such a Stir on our 6 cylinder motors. If it really really improves that much performance for you and now cuts 1/3 of a second off the time as someone stated, go for it with your 6xer. 1/3 of a second must be 15 feet faster in the 1/4 mile vs your stock engine. For approx $500.00 investment for CAI and Tune to gain 15 feet in the Qtr.....cool!! Do you want a sound system or CAI Bama Tune? You be the judge.
Sorry for criticizing those that have the CAI with Bama Tune. I would go for the sound system!

heres my take...
I have a v6 and the first mod i did to it was to add a killer sound system which is awesome, everyone who rides in it loves it..
next, I added a tune/cai... which was a nice seat of the pants improvement..
They are both worth it, its your car and when you are driving it no one from this forums will experience it but you.
now... I also added an aluminum driveshaft and supercharger (x-charger #218) to mine...oh yeah, and a 8.8 w/3.73 gears, ford racing exhaust, and nitto 555 tires... the car is quick as hell.
then i added memphis 8's in the doors and now I have 3 amps in the car
point is you do what you want and you can always add to it...

I don't have a whole sound system, but I did put a DDIN on mine which is absolutely without any doubt one of my favorite mods so far. I also have a tune and cai which I also love. I'm sure whichever one you decide to go with first will be a great choice. The tune and cai do improve the car a considerable amount, especially for an automatic. It may not be GT fast, but it'll definitely stand its ground against other cars you wouldn't had a chance with before. Don't let the naysayers tell you otherwise. Also, I don't track my car, nor do I plan to, but the performance increase was worth every penny.
What kind of difference did the headers do for you? Are they shorties? I'm thinking of one day getting some for mine, even though many say the gains are hardly there, if any at all. Did they improve the exhaust and power of the vehicle?

WOW, this thread blew up since i last checked it. I didnt mean to cause a stir, but i just wanted to let everyone know i bought the CAI and tune. I found a C&L CAI on ebay for $140.00 and bought the bama tuner for $379.99 shipped after the military and Memorial Day weekend discount. Let me say i was very concerned i wouldnt be happy with the outcome, but after the easy install of the CAI and download of the tune, i gunned it down the road, wheels spun a little bit, and definitely sounded like a whole new animal. I just switched it to the 89 octance Performance tune, and i havent had a chance to give it a go really, but i am excited. I chose the tune and CAI first because of the good price of the CAI and the sale of the tuner, and like others have said I decided i will just slowly buy small pieces for a sound system. Thank you everyone for their imput. I am still getting used to terms and such on here, but what are GT 8.8's? I do have M/T GT mufflers I still want to put on, but i am having trouble getting the rusted bolt off the clamp.

just depends on how you drive it and how concerned you are about MPG. i ended up with 3.73's but thats bc i do road course racing and wanted something a little longer. a lot of ppl do the 4.10s for street/drag racing tho
