Default Mysterious Overheating Problem

Thanks for all your help and suggestions. Replaced the water pump which had a small leak at 107K miles. Turns out the "new" OEM fan had a short in it and would work intermittingly which lead to the "random" overheating issue. Just happened to hear it slow down during the process of replacing the water pump. Unfortunately, no warranty on it since I'd purchased it over a year ago, but at least the problem appears to be solved.

Many thanks to all who replied.
