Can anyone tell me if one of the inexpensive Bluetooth OBD dongles along with the "Torque" Android app, can be used to disable the 115mph electronic speed limiter in my 2008 V6 Mustang?

That just lets you scan for diagnostic information, it doesn't do any programming. You need to get a tune.

Well then is there any software/hardware package that will turn a laptop into a tuner instead of having to buy a dedicated tuner that will only work on one car? A tuner is just a computer (and not a very powerful one) with some dedicated software and an OBD connector. There must be some way to do this with a laptop (or tablet) and skip buying redundant hardware, no?

i find it hard going over those speeds in a coupe v8..death wish springs to mind

The V6 isn't even breathing hard at 115. That's what's so frustrating. The limiter kicks in right in the middle of the power band.

Sorry, I can't answer your question but I think you're playing with fire, despite that a number of folks claim they can reach over 120 MPH on the stock tune in their 4.0. The 4.0's drive shaft is know to tear apart at speeds in excess of 125 MPH. And personally, I don't think ANY stock 4.0 can push much beyond 125 w/o some... "help". That's a lot of wind resistance to cut with a meager 4.0.

The 4.0L engine itself may not be too strained (which isn't particularly correct either mind you) but the drivetrain and suspension are absolutely at their limits when you near speeds in excess of 115+ MPH.

At those speeds that two piece shaft will back out of its U-Joints and start oscillating so fast that you won't know what hit you when it finally does snap. Or just as worse, your **** poor stock OEM tires (probably the cheapo ones that came with base 4.0s) rated for less than 120MPH fail. Either way, you are causing a death wish to come true due to blissful ignorance.

As far as answering your "question", I do not know of any programs that will unlock your PCM and allow you to make changes on the fly through your computer (do you have a USB to OBDII connector?). As far as I know, most garage tuners still use their SCT tuners to upload their files into their vehicles.

I don't even want to ask if you have a roll bar for your convertible when you are doing these speeds...

plus a verts chassis is dire compared to a coupe..
leave well alone dude if i was you.
as i said even a gt feels scary above those speeds...
