Powerhouse Turbo - O2 sensors & Emissions
Hey guys,
Hopefully you can help me.
I'm trying to pass emissions in VA with my Turbocharged V6 mustang (Powerhouse Turbo Kit)--It was installed by excessive motorsports in Manassas.
I'm not too knowledgeable about the functioning of the emission system...but I know they replaced the factory two catalytic converters with one single high flow cat. Before which I can count at least 3 O2 sensors hooked up...though after the cat, there are none.
How many sensors are there supposed to be, and where are they supposed to be located to show as "ready" on the OBD2 test? Can i put two O2 sensors on one pipe in sequence after the single Cat and still get an accurate reading?
I really appreciate the help.

Welcome to MF. Why did they replace the cats in the first place? The OEM cats flow just as good, if not better, than any aftermarket cats currently on the market. If VA is as bad as Cali you will not pass the visual smog check. You should have 4 O2 sensors, 2 pre-cat, 2 post cats. I do not believe your plan would work as the sensors are placed in specific places to get correct reading. Good luck.

Ok I can help you out, as I have a powerhouse and recently passed emissions inspection with both rear o2 sensors connected.
First of all, they put in a single high-flow cat; that's good as you have a cat and are visually legal (although, if it was my car, I'd consider opting for a fake cat to keep the exhaust open, but that's a different topic).
Do you have a wideband sensor installed anywhere?
In my PH piping, there were 2 bungs in the pipe after the turbo, one back near the cat and one by the a/c compressor.
You should be able to use those bungs if you use one of those spark plug anti-foulers. That may work for you. But you do need to have both rear sensors installed in the pipe somewhere.
The fact is, you can pass emissions with a PH turbo and have rear sensors turned on, such that all monitors are able to get to a ready state.
I'd send you a pm but it looks like you're not allowing them.
