Default custom exhaust question

So I've pretty much finished my exhaust mods on my 2014 v6 and I've determined that I don't like the off road x-pipe. It's way too loud when combined with my dynomax catback. My car is lowered so adding resonators is kinda questionable because of ground clearance and I'm kinda tired of smelling exhaust fumes all the time. I'm thinking of cutting my stock mid pipe and mating it to the back half of my BBK off road x-pipe (using clamps) to tame the sound/smell until I can afford some quality high flow cats to weld in the X.. Has anyone attempted this? I'm assuming the power loss will be minimal since the stock cats are supposed to flow pretty well. I'll also getc back some of the torque I lost with the larger exhaust. Any input would be appreciated.

I have the FRPP cut and clamp X-Pipe on mine so I don't think it would be much different.
But then again I have stayed away from Torque lowering exhaust mods and done torque adding or neutral mods only.

JJHoover, I smell gas/exhaust fumes when I'm sitting at red lights or first thing when I start it up because I don't have cats. I'm going to add cats to the BBK o/r x-pipe once I can afford some quality ones.

I am pretty sure if you are smelling exhaust it is because you have an exhaust leak. I have had cars without cats and have never smelled exhaust

Carbon Monoxide is odorless.
I would be wondering just what you ARE 'smelling'.
The burn should be so complete that no smells
should be even coming out of the tailpipes.
I would suspect that you are smelling the coating
that is on the new pipes and the smell should
disappear after a few heat cycles.
