Default Bama Tune or 3.73 gears?

Hi all! Would like more pep in my 2012 3.7 auto vert. I have an airaid CAI, BBK tb. And magnaflow street axilbacks. Looking for more pep. Should I go with 3.73 gears, or just a Bama Tune? It’s my retirement fun car, but would like to have some more get up and go. Basically driving around town, but I do some highway driving on short trips once in a while and cruise at 80mph. Would doing gears be overkill for me? Or should I just get a Bama Tune from AM? Thank in advance for your input!! I’m also going to go from 215/65/17 tires to 235/55/17’s in the near future if The matters! Forgot to say I have stock 2.73 now!

2.73? Wow, I didn't think Ford still used those in Mustangs of any model since like 07ish? Definitely get the gears but, keep in mind you will need a tuner to program the PCM to recognize the different gear so, the question should be....

Just Bama Tune for now or Bama + Gears?

If you simply change the gears without reprogramming, you could damage the tranny or engine.

So if I do gears, I should do the Bama Tune, got it! But if I do the tune without changing to 3.73, and leave in the 2.73, will I still get more zip in throttle response? Btw, thanks for your input!!

Do both! You’ll be very happy with the end result!

There are more reputable tuners out there than Bama. If you want headaches and a car that doesn't run right, use em' but put their number in your speed dial. I wouldn't use them if they offered free tunes. Oh, and sell that BBK TB, its not helping you at all. Just my $.02, good luck

I agree with losing the BBK TB - they’re prone to problems.
3.73 gears might well be a bigger performance boost than the tune since you only have 2.73’s now, but you’ll want the tuner anyway to change the gear ratio for the speedo. Hence, do both! 😊

Can you elaborate on the BBK TB problems? It’s been on for about 5k now and haven’t had a prob. Yet. $ is a little tight right now, so I would rather do 1 now! Should I do a tune first, then when gears are done send for a new tune??

The car won't drive right if you put gears in and don't tune the PCM to recognize the new gear. The transmission is electronic so if you don't update the PCM to tell it you have 3.73 gears instead of 2.73 it won't shift correctly and could damage the transmission.

I've had Bama (American Muscle) in my 08 since 2010. Zero problems. The only preference I had was I had them put the two step fans back to OEM temps. I didn't like having the low speed fan running almost all the time in AZ.

Agreed on the BBK (or any aftermarket TB for that matter).

BBK and pretty much any aftermarket TB doesn't seem to have the durability or quality of the OEM. There are a few that seem to be fine but most users report problems within the first year of use. Things like hunting idle, or Limp Mode on the car or just a loss in power because the TB isn't responding like it should. Also an upraded TB is a waste of money unless you have the modes to support it like a Turbo or Supercharger. The intake side is not he bottle neck in these cars, it's the Exhaust and head flow.

You can always do a tune first then, then have the tune either revised by whoever you bought it from or update it yourself since most handheld tuners allow you to make certain changes yourself, like the gears.
