Crankshaft Pulley and HB
Hey Guys,
I need to replace my pulley or HB. I am not really sure. The pulley is wobbling and makes small chirps until the engine warms up. Which based on my research is a sign that is the issue. I have questions and concerns. 2006 Mustang V6 - 140K+ miles - never changed as far as I know. 1 - Is the crankshaft pulley and the HB together? Do you replace them and buy a new part as one? 2 - Ways to break the bolt without having to dismantle the front end. 3 - Do I need to replace the bolt or can I use the original with the new pulley? 4 - How do I secure the new pulley on? I assume since i need a tool to get it off more then tightening the bolt is needed to get it on. 5 - Any special steps for getting the key to line up (never done it before, just see in the pictures it has a space for it 6 - Any greasing/oils/etc. needed? 7 - tid-bits or suggestions? Thanks guys. |

Part help
Hey Guys,
I was going to buy a new crankshaft pulley/HB. When I got onto Rock Auto, there were several selections, but I have a concern. They all seems to have a different size gear (thickness and length) on each one. I was thinking the biggest one would be best but it has warranty of only 12 months while the smallest gear has a lifetime. Here is the list: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...+balancer,5512 Ultra-Power Brand: Cheapest, 12 month warranty, but the images don't look like there is much cuchioning for the HB. ATP Brand: Close in cost, limited lifetime warranty, looks to be the best quality, but gear is the smallest. Thanks for your opinions. |
Since you are going to replace that, I would look for an Underdrive Pulley first. This will
free up a little more horsepower. They do not ADD it, they make more of it available to the wheels by under-driving the accessory pulleys that are parasitic loss with HP. A kit will come with a new belt, as a UDP will be a little smaller. Like so: https://www.rpmoutlet.com/2005-2010-...ive-pulley.htm You won't need to buy THEIR belt for that price though, that's rape... https://www.autopartsandstuff.com/ga...ovatbelts.aspx Also, $15.99 on Amazon... Not many options out there, and I could not find any for S197 on eBay.... |

Get a pair of Steeda underdrive pulleys and enjoy a 9hp boost in the process. They consist of a smaller crank pulley and a bigger water pump pulley, so you can reuse the stock drivebelt.
