5R55S Transmission Vent to Catch Can

5R55S Transmission Vent to Catch Can
I am adding a trans catch to the system, are tuned with firm shifts.
I can see the vent hose, and I can get to it, barely, from the passenger
side, curling my arm up, but do not have any leverage to pop it out of the
bell housing. The Cat 02 sensor is in the way, and my fore-arm is firmly
smashing up against it when I try to pull the vent out, and almost bent it.
I can see it from the top, and assume I will need like a tree-pruner to cut it
back some, so I can put a coupler in it to route it up to the catch.
JDM has a kit for $160.00, they can go pound salt. I modified an oil catch can for it:
Drilled and tapped for the hose fitting, and put lock-tite on the threads.
The catch cans are $25.00 on line, eBay, and come with the vent filter, and one
plug. I found an oil drain plug from an LS motor that threaded in, so that is on the
TOP of the can, and the one that was on top out of box, is in the right side port.
The breather filter is on the left side port:
So, this is where I am at right now:
All I need is to get the vent out of the bell housing, install the coupler, then run hose up
to the bottom hose fitting.
So, if any one else has hooked up a catch, how did you get the hose end out
of the bell housing? My next step, is to get a tree branch cutter, and just
cut the hose as far up as I can. There is a wire harness that runs across it
up there. JDM has no instructions at all...
The catch can is so anything that gets blown out the vent, into your bell housing,
and slang around the inside, goes to the catch instead. Then, it drains back into
trans, rather than lose it. You can also add trans fluid through this set-up,
should you need to.

There is a kit:

I have read that fluid can blow out the vent under WOT acceleration shifts, tuned
with firm shift enabled. It takes a lot before it will weep out the bell housing,
but you don't know how much you lost till that happens. So, with the catch
installed, any fluid blown out, drains back into the trans. Plus, if you so need
to add some, you can add it into the catch can basin, and it will drain back into
the trans. Maybe, minor pan leak, a leak at the band adjust nuts, and so on...
