2005 Cluster Swap
 

Trying to get some up to date info. I've got an 05 V6 that the gauges are starting to go. I checked behind the dummy cover and I have the wiring. Picked up a 6-gauge cluster from an 05 GT off eBay really cheap. What's my next step? Is there a company that I can send both clusters to and they can reprogram/clone the info necessary? When it is cloned will it recognize that the new cluster is a 140mph speedo instead of the 120mph? Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Looking to get this done sooner rather than later. My speedo is gone and now my temp is starting to go. Living in Las Vegas, having a bad temp gauge is not something I want to deal with.

If your just looking to have the mileage corrected, I sent mine to Powls Speedometer in Lancaster Pa. You don't need to send both clusters, just sign a waiver and tell them the mileage. This is where a local ford dealer sends there cluster work to. I wouldn't think the MPH would have any effect. But they would be able to answer that question. If it were me I would just go ahead and install it and see what you have.

On the S197, Isn't the mileage stored by the PCM and not the cluster? Serious question.

Everything I've read says mileage is stored on the cluster. That is why you would have to send in the cluster to the mileage programmed correctly.

But I am only a weekend mechanic and not very knowledgeable in such things. I could be way out in the left field on this. Anyone have a definitive answer?

Yes, miles is stored in the Serial EEPROM in the cluster. You will either have to send it
out for a correction, or remove your old EEPROM and put it in the new one. There are
instructions out there somewhere, I watched a video a while ago. Need some skills,
you don't want to burn the EEPROM with heat as you desolder each leg from the board.

I believe the dealer can only make the correction on a brand new cluster, that being one with
ZERO miles on it. A used one, needs programmed. Dealers won't do it with used.
