Default Magnaflow cat back exhaust problem

Hi all,
Had the Magnaflow (p/n 16605) cat-back installed a few weeks ago. Today I put on a GT bumper, and I cannot put the pipes in the correct place. Looks like the exhaust was made for the V6 bumper only, and will not fit into the GT bumper cutouts. I need to have major work on the exhaust to fit it up right - probably gonna cost me $200+ in labor. Anyone run into this problem???

Well, when you put GT mufflers on a V6 with stock rear bumper, the pipes stick out about 2" more than the stock V6 muffer.

So....if new V6 muffler has the same lines as the stock V6 muffler---when you put a GT rear bumper on, I'm expecting that the pipe is about 2" short of sticking out/flush with the GT bumper.

Is that what you are seeing? Or what doesn't work right?

I posted on this once before, but not to real detail. It took me awhile to get it resolved, and for a good bit....I had one pipe sticking out more than the other. I finally got reffered to a muffler guy that did mostly custom jobs. He charged me just under 100 bucks to fix it (and two others quoted me 300) and he said he extended the pipe a bit, and used a custom hanger he made to make them even, and come out just over an inch on each side. Also, I had my GT bumper on before the dual was put on...this helped him a lot to fix the problem.

Bottom line is it can be done, but you need to find someone that knows what they are doing. I will give him a call and get some more details from him.

rygenstormlocke,
any info would be great. How did you wire up the fog lights?

I put the same exhaust on my car with the GT bumper. It was a real PITA to get lined up correctly! They are real hard to line up correctly, especially the one on the drivers side. If you want both of them to look even, the way it was for me, the drivers side rubs/hits on the inside the the spare tire tub on the underside/drivers side. I eventually took it all apart again and trimmed about 1/4" off each of the five pieces. The Y piece got trimmed on both sides. The 2 long pieces got trimmed on both sides and the end tips only got trimmed on the connecting side for obvious reasons. This gave me a little more wiggle room and I was able to get them identically placed into the GT cutouts and it moved the whole assembley towards the front of the car about 3/4". This made sure it cleared and didnt rub on the the muffler brackets so there isnt any rattles and it also cleared/pulled away from the tub on the inside. I wedged a solid 1/2" of cardboard between the pipe and the tub while I tightened it all down so when I was done and removed the cardboard, that there was enough clearance and it didnt rub/hit on the tub which was the problem to start with. There were also some wires in the area that were kinda close to the pipes so I ti wrapped them up tighter so they werent anywhere near the hot exhaust. Hope this helps. Cheers................
