How often to start during winter
Hello My V6 is not being driven this winter.
It has sit now for a week under a nice car port protected front and sides by tarps.
I dont want to moth ball it due to the very nice spring like days Kentucky has in the middle of winter sometimes.
How often should I start my car and let it run for how long when it is not being driven for a stretch of time?
Thanks

well, the most common thing is water in the gas tank. as it sits in the cold weather, water build up at the top of the tank. you can add products to the tank, but its not all to necessary. what i do is just start it up, and let it run for like 15 or 20 minutes, once every couple of weeks. rev it up if it makes you feel better. and add fresh gas once in a while, also every month. even if you just let it isit and dont touch it, it never really does too much damage, but by letting it sit and not running, your oil also can suffer some damage and spark plugs and stuff. just run a couple times a month and add fresh gas once in a whil and u should be ok.

Honestly.....I have several cars including a 34Ft boat that sit all winter and I dont start them. I go to my local marine store and I get a gas stabilizer and add it to a full tank of gas . I also get a can of engine fogging oil. The fogging oil helps coat everything with a film of oil so everything is preserved and your first start in the spring isnt so tough on your engine. Ive been doing this for 25 years and have never had any problems. But if you decide to fog your engine and still run it in the winter months you should re fog.
