Default red lined in an auto?

i was back in a neighborhood being built, and its an open road, but its not "publicly maintained" so theres no speed limit and no cops... and i was just putzing around seeing different stuff... and ended up goin down a little hill (Long hill, small slant) with the traction control off, and i punched it in first gear and hit redline before it would shift, so i let off the gas and turned the TCS back on and headed home...

wtf? arent auto's supposed to shift before redline to prevent engine damage?

Every time i do thant , which is almost daily, my car shifts into the next gear , it has never ever hit the revlimiter.

it depends what you are doing, when it detects that you are intending to go fast, it will do this (aka floor it from the start or from a roll)

i have experience it too

the way you explained it, it seems more like throttle lag and not redlining

well i thought baout that to, so how i tested this was i made a complete stop on the highway at about 4am (probably a really bad idea at any other time) then i just floored it and sure indeed, it red lined every time before it shifted
