Default Buying a 'Stang.... need tuners help!!

I pretty much grew up in a Ford family, even though my first car was a '78 Dodge Truck, then I had a '98 Mercury Tracer[:'(], Now I have a 2002 VW GTI 1.8T (Awesome car!!) But now Im thinking about buying a new Mustang (2006). From a tuners stand-point, how bad will I be short-changing myslef if I bought a V6 compared to a V8. Keep in mind... Im NOT trying to build a 10 sec. car. I just want something fast, reliable, and something I can take to the track and be proud off (best 1/4 et w/ GTI was 14.9 w/ intake and 2.5" Cat-back) What are the major down-falls to building a 2006 V6 Mustang Project car???

I think this thread will give you an idea what's possible with a 4.0 V6 as a project basis: TMS Power adder thread

It's reasonably easy to get a 4.0 'stang into the 13's with nitrous, and at least one turbo'ed model has broken into the 11's. There's some real potential.

The 4.0L loves mods... with minor mods, you'll surpass your GTI pretty easily.

My only concern is that... I've seen chipped GTi's (20psi-stock turbo) walk stock GT's (99-04) and I would hate to get into a car thats going to get walked by the car I already own. But if boosted 4.0's are getting into the 11's.... HELL thats good enough for me!! Besides, Im sure insurance will be cheaper on a 4.0 vs a 4.6.... or even my GTi for that matter. Thanks for the input guys!!!

the downfall is just that, its a v6. However, its a 4.0 which is a pretty big engine for a 6er, and it will get your *** hauling concitering its almost the exact same engine as the one out of an explorer. They're comming out with all sort of mods and custom things for it, so as the others said, it has lots of potential- its all jhust how much money you want to spend.

ALso, keep in mind the people running N20 are also running TLOK as the V6 only puts power to one wheel. But yes, getting into the 13's is resonably easy, just talk to Jimp or Scrming, they are running Zex kits. I'm seriously giving it thought before the end of the year. Also, the Powerhouse turbo car running in the 11's, it has a 8.8 rear end so that would have to be consdered. Also, it is advised that if you plan to build a 10 second 6 banger, to do some cam and piston work.

But....13s and 12s are definitely doable. And 14's can be achieved with the mods I have listed with no power adders. Just some food for thought.

I show my car pretty much every weekend during the summer... if I had a dime for every time I heard "You should have bought a GT" or "It's only a 6 cylinder" well.... I'd be rich! LOL! However now I can honestly say I'm faster than stock GT (13.5 is pretty much accepted as the stock GT value although we've all seen stock GT's in the high 13s and even 14s... )

But like Lester said.... Lots of potential... it's all about how much you want to spend... LOL!

the only downfal to modding the v6 is that there are not as many options as the gt's
but, it is still fun, and with just a few mods you can have it outrun your gti, as said before, the powerhouse turbo would definitly cut a few seconds off your time's
if you dont want to go with that, there are always the superchargers, procharger and vortech (you will have trouble getting that one so stick with procharger imo)

i know for a fact that a lot of custom proformance shops will modify a turbo system for another car to fit yours (i am considering doing this because it is significantly cheaper)

Thanks for the input guys.... really helps. The cost difference between the V6 and the GT is substantail.... and If I can have a V6 with good power, cheaper insurance, and better milage..... then it would be the obvious choice!!!!
