Well I think the stock v6 tires are rated at 115 or around there so I think the tires are the problem there. That being said I took off my governor with a tuner and buried the needle for about 10 seconds so I'd say 125ish probably, maybe more couldn't really tell how fast I was accelerating after the needle stopped.

the other day after school...just for fun...on a back road with a 70 mph limit...they had one of those Speed Limit things that tell you how fast you are going so i gunned it before i got there....the sign said 122...bone stock except a k&n filter

i think every mustang is different...depends on the road, driver, etc


EDIT - I have R rated tires...does that make a difference?

ya, I'm a little nervous about going over 120MPH with the stock 16" tires. I want to wait until I have different ones to try it again.

Bogged down at 125. You don't feel the speed in this car. I usually drive about 85 - 90 mph and it feels like fifty.
spoke to the guy that did my dyno tune and he said he could up the top end if I want.

I ran out of speedometer at 120, but am planning on having another go using the GPS to track my speed above 120. From the factory the V6 is suppose to be governed at about 113 but any tuner, in my case an XCal2, can remove this limit.

Update: Has anyone looked as replacing the V6 speedo with a GT unit?

According to some of the tire techs I've talked to, the rating on a tire indicates you can run at the rated speed for prolonged periods of time, not that you can not exceed the rated top speed for short periods of time, however at speed there is no substitute for a safety margin.

Ive hit 117 in my ol V6 mustang (1998) just a CAI, in my cobra ive dun 130 pretty easy in there still got some left
