v6 vs 03 wrx

RE: v6 vs 03 wrx
whoa you have this all wrong...the wrx has an insanely fast launch...the sti has probably one of the best launches of any production car under 100k. Off the line a wrx will murder a v6 stang, but from a roll the wrx has no power because of it's awd drivetrain power loss. The engine is also highly over rated on the wrx's they make something like 160 whp at their peak because of awd. He will beat you in a short race cause of his launch, but you can hang with him otherwise, and from a roll you should win.

RE: v6 vs 03 wrx
Raced my friends 03 Wrx last saturday.... dig and a roll he has some fuel stuff +boosting a little higher from a dig he had me by a car length by 30 kept going but he was pulling so i stopped, then from a 15-20 roll not sure which but it was really close but again i lost to him but he is boosting a little higher than stock. But with what he has done he *can* run 28psi which is crazy for a stock block but it's his car sooo but he can waste sti's with that boost and GT's but we have a lot of big block V8's here and it sucks having a V6 and i get the "Still lookin for the other 2 cylinders" and that crap all the time so i feel for ya.

RE: v6 vs 03 wrx
5 sp WRX gets mid-14's average
auto WRX gets low 15's average
STi gets low 13's average
now this is stock, and with the new 2.5 engine, they get good gains from just simple mods like up/down pipe. The 03 WRX wasn't quite as strong as the current one <2.0 vs current 2.5 engine>, if it's auto you should be able to take him, if it's not you'll have to beat the driver.
And to the guy who brought up the 2.5rs, that's just the non-turbo version of the WRX, they are low 16 sec cars.

RE: v6 vs 03 wrx
one thing you guys arent realising when you say the wrx would slaughter the v6 is the magazine 1/4 and 0-60 tests are unrealistic. Those testers get as much out of the car as possible. If you launch a mustang at 4500rpm...you are not gonna go anywhere...but if you launch a wrx at the same, you will just launch harder. The magazine times for awd turbo cars are launching these cars at rates the owners would never do stock. IT IS TERRIBLE FOR THE TRANNY AND ENGINE. most people that actually have wrx's and care for their car run mostly high 14's to real low 15's stock. The manual stang is capable of low 15's so it pretty much becomes a drivers race. Plus like i said before, from a roll you will own him.
To give you an idea of how horrible the wrx is as a straight line car without a good launch i will show you the times from the september 2005 issue of car and driver, where they compared the ion red line, cobalt s/c, wrx, srt-4, and rsx-s.
the rsx-s runs the slowest 1/4 at 14.9. the wrx ran a 14.6, but look at it's other times. It ran a 0-60 time of 6.0 which is good, but the 50-70 is 11.0!!!! the rsx-s does 50-70 in 9.3. That is a substantial difference. The wrx does a street start (5-60) in 7.6 while the saturn ion redline does it in 6.3. Its all in the launch for the rex, and if the driver wants their clutch to last they will not be running 14.6's. Modded its an entirely different story because wrx's can get so much power from so little (a full TBE and tune can give it 300hp if not more.) But stock they are not as fast as everyone thinks.
