Default 05 V6 vs. Acura TL

I've always wanted to do one of these.

A coworker just landed an Acura TL. Now, that would've been my second/third choice, next to a Mustang GT, if I ever had the funds. Anyhow he teases me about racing each other all the time, but we never had. How do you think we'd do in drag/light-to-light/point-to-point? Turns and such are out of the question.. I know my V6 is very skiddish, but I like how it handles.

They're both automatic, both stock (I've got magnaflows sitting in my room collecting dust, though). His TL puts out about 260HP, and 230lb torque.

If it's an auto, it would be close... a manual would be a different story. The TL has 50 hp on you... and you've got 10 lb of torque on him.

But I found this from Auto Consumer Guide with a brief search [Test automatic-transmission TL did 0-60 mph in about 7 sec. Automatic downshifts smoothly, promptly for good midrange response. Manual-transmission test car did 6.2 sec 0-60.]

Did a similar search when my friend got his Mazda RX8. The V6 can also pull 0-60 in about 7 seconds, and 1/4 mile in about 15 seconds. Those are more than likely manual numbers, though. [&:]

You have any idea how it'll work from a roll?

I think car and driver has the auto Mustang at 6.9 second... manual will do better with a good driver.

So, you might edge him out from a dig... from a roll, he'll probably get ya.... take it to the track and find out!

Someday.. [>:]

Wish there was a track nearby. In the mean time, I'll see if I can pick a fight with a TL at a light.

dont this test before in person...it was an older TL though, 2003

pretty much i stomped on it...the only way that i could imagne that car beating me in a race is if we were on the highway for a high speed race

Those are more than likely Manual Transmission times.

Turns out he has 2005 TL: 270HP/238TQ 5 speed auto. For some reason the 2006 TL's have a lowered HP/TQ rating. The 05 TL It has an estimated 0-60 of 7 seconds (I've seen another report for 6.66 seconds), and 1/4 in the low 15s (need a larger sample to draw from). He doesn't know how to use his 3 speed shifter, and is still completely stock.

I on the other hand have a SCT Xcal2 in order, and dual magnaflows (magnaflows wont do chit, I know.. but maybe it'll have some psychological effect).

They were overrating their HP.... A bunch of companies - Acura included got into some hot water last year for showing higher HP/tq numbers than really existed and had to publish new ones and etc... for the following years
