Glass Paks
 

I was thinking about the old small block fords and how good they can sound. I can remember a '67 Cougar that had a 289 and glass paks, I think they were Cherry Bombs maybe. Anyway this 289, even though the internals were stock was one of the Baddest A$$ sounding cars around. It had a nice deep smooth rumble, it was sweet.

I wonder how the 4.0 would sound with dual glass paks ? Has anybody tried them ?

I have not heard of anyone on this or any of the other mustang forums that have installed glass packs.

I have them :)

Dual Glasspacks about mid car, and 21"x3" chrome tips sticking out the back.

I had somewhat of a high pitched chirp for the first 150-300 or so miles, but once the glasspacks broke in, they sound amazing.

I don't run a crossover of any kind.

The tone has gotten a little deeper since then, but not a whole lot.

The best part about this, and I still have to smile when I think about it, is I paid $240 to have the duals run (labor and parts). Every time I hear someone complain about the flowmaster drone, I just kinda have to laugh at how much they paid for their exhaust, and they don't really like it.

Glass packs...

We used to take those.. but before putting them on the car, dump some gas into the glass pack and ignight it... melting some of the fiberglass which made them a little louder. I'm NOT recommending you do this!... just telling you what we did when we were stupid young men! :D

Sorry to butt in, but what exactly to glasspacks do? Do they cause more restriction?

glasspacks are a step above straight pipes

it's pretty much a big tube (3 1/2 inches) with a little tube inside of it (2 1/2 inches)

The little tube inside is straight through, but with holes in it.

Between the big and little tube, there is fiberglass

once this fiberglass breaks in, it muffles the raspier noises from your exhaust, and helps mellow the tone, while allowing nearly 0 resistance to air force.

ive read some of your other posts and you seem to really know what you are talking about. so before i go out and get my exhaust done let me get this right. from what i understand you have dual glasspacks, no muffler or hpipe or xpipe and three inch pipes from the glasspack back. Do you notice any torque loss or hp gains in you rpm ranges. I was going to go with the flow 40's but have heard negative things on droning. I like a lot of noise, just not cheap ricey noise, smooth LOUD deep noise. whats ur recommendation. It is much appreciated.
