Default Mustang (2008) winter tires?

So heres the story... I am just shy of 19, and my parents bought me a slightly used 2008 V6 mustang, and as I live in Fort Wayne, Indiana I was wondering how the 'stang will take to snow and ice.

The MAJOR thing is that I WILL be buying snow tires, and ill try the weight in the trunk. About me, I am a fairly easy going driver, (how else would i get my parents to agree to a mustang?) and after driving since I was 16, I dont have ANY crash incidents, no fender benders, or paint scrapes over McDonalds sign boards or anything like that lol.

So my main question is, will I have a fighting chance to survive this winter? Or am I in over my head, cause my parents said during the worst weeks of winter I can use their SUV. but yeah, that's all, and thanks so much for everyone's help!

POST NOTE: I DO have traction control, and ABS, also my previous car was a 1997 toyota camry, so I am coming from the FWD scene straight to the RWD... Thanks.

You will be fine. With good tires and sand in the trunk you can get anywhere. Just go slow and welcome.
