Default Tire Size on 17"

When i bought this car he came with this Maxxis Victra MA-Z1 tires 255/40R17 on the 4 wheels, but i'm thinking to change the rears for something like 275/40 or 295/35, but i have two questions:

1.- The Wheel are enough wide so that the tire fit perfectly?
2.- The Wheel Clearance, could hit the rear fender?
this is the wheels picture

That is an 8" wheel and should have no more than a 245 installed. Even the 255's current, are too large for a proper fit. You can certainly run a much wider tire and avoid rubbing issues, but you need a wider wheel to do so. You can easily run a set of 9" (f) and 10.5" (r) without issues.

Yes 255 is the max and 245 is staying on the safe side.

245's are max, 255's are too wide Now, this is not a real big deal, but leads to a bit sloppy cornering and less than ideal tire wear.

Indeed cornering will be sloppy and heavy. He might just use it for just highway pulls. lol

I realize that MANY do exactly this, but still a bad idea

The issue becomes one of strain on the sidewalls and bead seal. Poor tire wear and improper contact patch. Such a tire will be sloppy in the corners, when pushed hard and will lead to less stabilty at higher speeds.
