OK. Here’s where it get’s complicated. We have a tie–but it’s a fitting one. For second, and third, we have a pair of Bosses. The 2012 Boss 302 and the original 1969 Boss 302 each garnered 23% of the vote.

In 1969, the Mustang was developing a reputation for being a serious performer and the original Boss 302 (along with the Boss 429) helped to set the tone for the muscle car era of the ’70s. And much like the original Boss 302, the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 has a 5.0L engine under the hood. But unlike the 1969 model–which was more of a straight-line, budget performer–the 2012 Boss is hailed as the best handling Mustang of all time.

And while it’s great in the twisties, the 444 horsepower 5.0L Coyote V8 makes the new Boss no joke at the drag strip either.
