So, you want to impress other motorists on the road with your stylish 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang V6 or 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang GT? Or, maybe you just want to maintain a little privacy while out on the road; the Ford Mustang is a "head turner" after all. Whether you're shooting for a very dark window, or the ability to block the sun during exceptionally sunny days, the truth is there are several legal ways to go about modifying your Ford Mustang and bringing a little shade to your next road journey (as well as every journey after that). This guide will give you a straightforward overview of what other Ford Mustang owners have found helpful in the window tinting process, as well as explain which options are out there.

Journey Away From the Sun

For the 2005 to 2014 Ford Mustang, you have three main options to modify the tint on your windows: light, intermediate, or dark. There are super dark options out there, but the majority are illegal (in most states), meaning you could be subjected to expensive traffic tickets throughout the year. Most Ford Mustang owners stick to a light or intermediate window tint. Both provide a satisfactory level of sun protection and privacy.

Light (50%+)

This is the cheapest way to gain some increased privacy and protection from the sun while you drive. If 50% doesn't seem sufficient, many Ford Mustang owners have admitted to adding only a 50% tint to their front window, but a 35%+ tint to the side windows and rear window. Combining window tints could drive up the price, but not by much; maybe just $50 or so dollars. The tint should come with a lifetime warranty. Recommended for its privacy and protection.

Intermediate (50-30%+)

This is one of the most popular ways to gain increased style and privacy while out on the road. Some Ford Mustang owners went with a ceramic window tint, which does cost extra. However, the results are incredible. Not only will you have increased visibility, but ceramic window tinting is more durable against scratches and heat bubbles, which were a big complaint made by Ford Mustang owners against light tints. Recommended for its durability.

Dark (30-20%)

Professional Cost – $200-$300

This is the option for true road warriors. So, if you're a Ford Mustang owner with one of the most recent model years, such as a 2014 Ford Mustang GT, this is the tint that will most compliment your paint and get you noticed. If you want to go all out, paint your stock wheels and rims semi-gloss black; if money is not an issue, we recommend having your wheels and rims professionally powder coated for the best, top-of-the-line results. In most states, 20% is the legal limit for window tinting. Recommended to compliment the Mustang's paint.

Pro Tip

Always check your state's vehicle code for the legal limit on window tinting percentages. Some territories are more lenient than others.
