The anticipation for the 50th Anniversary of the Ford Mustang has been fueling a lot of discussions around the office here at The Mustang Source over which Mustangs have been the most iconic over the past five decades.

Sure, we know - they're all special in their unique way. But with every great automotive nameplate there's always a few that stick out.   Is it the 1964 ½ Mustang, which is credited with starting it all?  How about the first Shelby GT Mustang?

Maybe you're a little more "new school" and think the first Mustang to carry the 5.0 badge will go down as one of the most memorable models of the Ford pony car − or the third generation longer based Fox platform.

Then you could be a more a die-hard fan of some of the Mustang variants built by companies such as Saleen or Roush.

Is yours a model more geared to cruising or one centered on performance? Would your preference be a coupe or a convertible?

Over the course of our discussions, the 1967 Fastback has come up a few times as one of our favorites. But which Mustangs over the past 50 years would you list as the most iconic?

Marty Brink (Tue, 03 Dec 2013 14:27:05 -0800): 67,68,69 Mustangs are by FAR the most iconic of the breed and ALWAYS will be. Other years just take styling cues from these years because they are so beautiful!!
