Has Chevy Been Copying the Mustang? You Be the Judge
If imitation is indeed the greatest form of flattery, then Mustang owners should be glowing every time they see a Camaro.
According to a site called CheatSheet.com, Chevy has copied the design of the Ford pony car four specific times over the course of the history of the two vehicles, as highlighted below.
Apparently, the trend started with the 1969 Camaro, which looks an awful lot like the ‘67 Mustang.
The second Chevy Mustang lookalike came in the ’80s, with the ‘82 model, which CheatSheet says looks a lot like the Fox Body platform.
CheatSheet notes that the trend continued with the fifth-gen Mustang, but probably never showed as clearly as it does now, with the recent introduction of the sixth-gen Camaro, perhaps the most glaring example of Mustang copycatting.
While I certainly wouldn’t put a whole lot of weight into a site called CheatSheet, there are some glaring similarities between the cars, which makes their case hard to dispute.
1. First Mustang-Camaro Copy
1967 Mustang
1969 Camaro
2. Second Mustang-Camaro Copy
1979 Mustang
1982 Camaro
3. Third Mustang-Camaro Copy
2005 Mustang
2010 Camaro
4. Fourth Mustang-Camaro Copy

2016 Camaro
