Detroit Speed’s Modified 1965 Mustang Coupe Can Really Gallop

This 1965 Mustang started its life in Michigan as a 6-cylinder car (as many did), and has been given a new lease on life by Detroit Speed & Engineering. The car has retained a mostly-stock look both inside and out, with a gorgeous pony interior. The only thing that really belies its appearance as a stock ’65 Mustang is the larger-than-really-necessary 18″ wheels. Under the skin, however, is a 325-horsepower Roush/Yates crate 302 and a Tremec TKO 5-speed manual. It’s not wild, but it’s a right-side quicker than the stock 6. This car was really built for driving on the street, as it’s been fitted with a nice aftermarket air conditioning kit, a tighter-turning power steering rack, and proper four-wheel disc brakes. It takes a little bit of the nervousness out of driving an old car in modern traffic.

Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire had an opportunity to drive a bunch of cars from DSE to run as a series of videos, including the one below. Farah also hinted that the future videos will include some cars with a bit more horsepower. I don’t know about you, but I really look forward to seeing some of those wilder cars. I also hope that the future videos will feature fabricator Mark McDonald in the passenger’s seat, as his perfect Southern drawl makes this feel much more authentic.
