TheBayAreaRacing delivers heat with this Fox Body drag face-off video between a locally tuned 5.0L silver Mustang and a sleeper red pony fitted with a Coyote V8. This is one of those videos that really shows the difference between going your own route to build a dream Fox Body, or just going out and buying rocket-ready power from Ford Racing.

Watch the drag’s first angle from behind and you can see how the red Coyote is diving and squatting less, finding more grip and shifting faster than the silver 5.0. They stay about even until quarter through the course when the Coyote crate engine really comes alive, overtaking the silver 5.0. The description doesn’t say if the red Coyote is an automatic or not, but if it is a manual, I bow in the driver’s direction for his ability to power shift so well, keeping the vehicle flat, straight, planted, and accelerating. Even if the red Fox Body is an automatic, he kept his line well.

I also have to hand it to the silver 5.0 Fox Body for his response time and good launch off the line. But right when he is about to catch the launch and pull off, he goes harder, slips more, and the red Coyote takes the advantage. It seems to me like the driver made a mistake with finessing the throttle and shifting, causing the loss. And seeing that jump from the green along with that big blower hood leads me to believe the silver 5.0 could be pushing more horsepower.

All-in-all, this is a good example that buying a Ford Racing engine might just be the simple ticket to speed for your Fox Body. Have you done the Coyote engine or another Ford Racing engine swap before? Share with us!
