In what probably is one of Ford’s most powerful showings in years when it comes to performance, the Detroit carmaker rolled out a trio of vehicles displaying the company’s commitment to performance including the Mustang GT350R.

Here are a few things you need to know about Ford’s new top-tier track version of the Ford pony car bearing the iconic Shelby nameplate, and a few photos to go with them.

  1. Most track-capable production Mustang ever.
  2. The first car from a major manufacturer to feature carbon-fiber wheels as a standard option.
  3. While there’s no official date, the GT350R will go on sale later this year.
  4. Features the first-ever production V8 from Ford with a flat-plane crankshaft.
  5. Although Ford is keeping a lid on the official numbers of the GT350, it’s still important to note that the R model will be equipped with the most powerful naturally aspirated engine Ford has ever built.
  6. Items like the air conditioner, stereo system, rear seats, trunk floorboard and carpet have been stripped from the car to make it more track-capable.
  7. More than 130 pounds lighter than the Shelby GT350.
  8. Features an air-to-oil engine cooler typically found in race cars.
  9. Unique exterior touches include red painted brake calipers, red pinstriping at the edges of the optional racing stripes.
  10. Special interior features include high-contrast red stitching, Shelby GT350R badging and a D-shaped steering wheel with a red center mark.
