I hope someone can answer my question. Did 83 to 86 mustang GT's ever come with a 140 speedometer from the factory, or was one offered by Ford Motorsports. I have seen SVO's with the speedos that are numbered to 85 and have red lines with no numbers the rest of the way, but I have also seen speedos that are numbered all the way to 140 on ebay. I would like to get an authentic Ford 140 speedo for my 86 GT.

I just need to know if ford motorsports made a 140 speedo that was numbered all the way to 140 or are they all fake.

Nope, they don't have them. I think bbk used to make them, they still might but they look factory. I see them on ebay all the time.

 

they dont have them 140 stock. 50resto has them and they look factory but they arent im going to get one when i get the money

 

they did not offer them stock but ford did have a 140 mph motorsports spedometer that is a genuine ford aftermarket part. also all ssp cars came with a 140 mph speedo (or maybe that was 160mph?) but it was also a ford part

 

actually, some did, they were cop cars. My 86 has had a 140mph speedo in it since before it's first oil change. SVO/Motorsport (today it is FRPP) sold them

 

98 & up SSP came with 160mph "calibrated" speedos..... Extremely rare to find in the junkyards. I found one & only one in years of looking(it's in my notch & fools quite a few people into thinking my car is an SSP....).
As previously mentioned; FRPP used to offer a 140 speedo for the '79-86's many moons ago that is no longer offered.

 

I put a 140 speedo in my first 88 ... it was a factory piece from a newer stang ... I had to modify it a little to make it fit the panel .. after trying several speedo gears .. I never realy got one that made the speed accurate .... it just looked cool at the time to have the 140 on the dash

 

yse they did come with them just as Twister said. They were factory in the Police version of the 5.0 LX. Here is an 85 LX 5.0 noch on ebay that has one.

Thanks for the replies. This is a great resource for mustangs. What do you guys think about this speedo. It is supposed to be new in box, but I am not sure if it is genuine ford or not.
