Removable Hard-Top???

Removable Hard-Top???
I've always disliked the look of ragtops on convertibles, but I do like the open air feel of them. Other cars have had lots of lines that use a removable hardtop, magic-top or T-tops. I always wondered what it would look like on a Mustang. Well, wonder no more... I Gimped an image of how it would look on a New GT350 (below).
I wonder how hard it would be for a fabricator to do this? A little reinforcement behind the seats, and some rework of the interior trim and some latches to hold the hardtop in place when put on. My quick measurements show that it could easily fit behind the seat when taken off (as long as there are no backseat passengers... )
Anyway, I think I would love this:

Have wondered how much something like this would be to do to a coupe. Feasibility and money wise. Re-enforcement of the front section would be required would it not? I think it would be one of the best mods to do, appearance wise, just from having the option of being a convertible, with less of the drawbacks IMO.
Having a welding torch put to my car when itīs in perfect shape makes me cringe though.
Re-locate the overhead lamps to mid..perhaps just a quick-disconnect for that and the advanced rear-view mirrors. Some minor fab work..
Donīt think thereīs any other wiring being run up through there.

That would definitely be the way to go. I would *never* do this... I don't have the know-how or the gumption... or the money. But, I like thinking about such things and the gimp-mockup looked nice.

I had an '82 5.0 with T-Tops and loved it! It was nice to take the windows out and get some fresh air and a little sun too.
The T-Tops back then had a latch on the side that you would pull out to remove the glass. I stored them in the trunk in bags that came with it. It wasn't very hard to remove nor did it take long. Some people did have problems with it leaking. Since my car was a garage queen, it never saw rain so that wasn't an issue for me.

That mock up looks very nice and I would go for something like that. I wonder how much extra bracing is required for it - the convertible has extra bracing already and maybe it would just need the convertible bracing to make it work.
Didn't someone do this to their Mustang sometime back? I don't recall who it was or if he is still around.
