what is the differences between the shaker 500 and the shaker 1000?

RE: what is the differences between the shaker 500 and the shaker 1000?
Mine Shaker 1000 sounds great. It has decent speakers up front in the doors (midrange/tweeter combo from Mach).
I had the subwoofer (weighs about 25 lbs!) and the amps (4 of them and they also weigh about 25lbs) out the other day. I was impressed there are 4 amps for the thing.
My guess is that the 1000 watts is BS because it is peak power. However, the rms power would be 500 watts so that's nothing to sneeze at.
I like the MP3 setup. I have 6 discs in mine with my WHOLE 70's rock and roll collection on them-->approxmately 1200 songs! (about 200 songs per disc).
I'm sure aftermarket stuff would be better since I've always changed out speakers and stuff, but this system is great as is. If I were to change 1 thing, it would be the cheap-o 6 X 8's out in the back. It has plenty of bass and will rattle the whole damn car if you pour it on!
I think the difference in the two is that the 500 has 2 less amps and only 500 watts (peak) or 250 watts rms. Get the shaker 1000.
Hope this helps.

Hey burnout,
I don't know if the search function is working for you, but this Q has recieved quite a bit of attention. You can try this thread for a start:

hey, there is no difference in sound quality it is the same, except the 1000 has the subs in the trunk. up front everything is the same, it is basically a 500 with 4 more amps running the subs in the back. unless your going to be listening to alot of rap and you want everyone within a block radius to feel your bass, get the 500. dont getme wrong Bass is cool, but not witht the kind ofmusici listen to. (rock) but even without the subs in the trunk, the 500 has enough bass to give me a headache! but it just depends on your choice ofmusic

I have the Shaker 500 in my 05 Stang. Good enough for me. Turn it up and your mirrors do shake. I listen to 50 Cent - Usher etc. and your body shakes afterwards.

Oh, no...
I totally disagree with O5sonicblue. I also listen to rock and the subs are made for rock music. If you like rap, get after market subs and power amps. The Shake1000 is just barely enough if you like loud music. Just barely. I does sound good for a stock system. I test drove a GT with the 500, put in a favorite CD and I will admit that it was good. If you like bass, get the 1000. It adds the fullness that the 500 is lacking. I didn't have a choice, the car had a 1000. I love it.

RE: what is the differences between the shaker 500 and the shaker 1000?
The power output of the Salt Shaker 1000 is measured in what us Electrical Engineers call "Peak-to-Peak" Power. You cannot simplu take the number and multiply it by the RMS calculation of .707 for the power area under the curve.
At best the Shaker 1000 would be about 353.5 watts RMS. I am guessing that we probably see 15-20 watts RMS to each of the four front speakers, which is all you need if they have a crossover on them (sending the bass to the subs only). Then that leaves about 140 watts RMS for each of the subs in the trunk, which is enough power as well if you are not a base head...
The Shaker 500 would be done about the same, Just go by half of what we see on the 1000 except keep the power to the four front speakers at the 15-20 watt RMS range and that leaves about 50 watts RMS to each of the 8" speakers in the doors.
Since I have never been in a Shaker 1000 system before, if it has the 8"s in the doors still then the numbers are probably still the near 50 watts and maybe the number for the rears would go down a bit.
If you look at the size of the amps in the car, you can see that from a purely physics perspective that they are not capable of producing anywhere near the 500 or 1000 watts as called out in the title numbers.
The thing to remember is that the numbers 500 or 1000 are going to be the rounded total of all of the individual amps in the car. Just like the old 5.0L was actually a 4.9L.
Ultimately, it is all about your ear, and pocketbook. And what most people here that have or plan to modify their stereos is true, your best dollars spent would be to get the basic stereo and replace it all. I know you could put together an incredible system for less than the cost Ford is asking for. $300.00 for a good head unit that plays MP3/WMA/ACC as well as regular CDs, $250.00 for two great pairs of speakers to fill the factory 5x7/6x8 openings and another $800 for a couple of nice subs and a solid amp to power them. You could do this with a myriad of manufacturers.
Hope some of this helps,
Skrappy

RE: what is the differences between the shaker 500 and the shaker 1000?
I think Skrappy is dead on. My 'stang has the Shaker 500 and there is simply no way that it has an honest 350 watts....or if it does, it has the most inefficient speakers mankind has ever seen. My buddy has the Shaker 1000, and ditto. NO WAY there's 700 watts (RMS) there. The numbers 500 and 1000 are definatley peak numbers.
That being said, I think they both sound very good, especially for factory systems. The 1000 is better....but is it $1200 better? I don't think so. I'm very happy with my Shaker 500. It sounds good even when you crank it up loud, and it has all the nice features such as the MP3 compatibility and the 6-disc changer. If you want something more than that, then spend your $$$ on a REAL aftermarket system rather than the Shaker 1000. A properly set up system from a real car stereo shop (not that crap they sell at Circuit City or Best Buy) will perform much better than the 1000, and it could cost less as well.
Stick with the 500 so that you get the changer, etc. Then upgrade the individual speakers (especially the ones in the rear deck) with your choice of aftermarket ones. Finally, purchase a good quality sub, amp, and get a custom made box (or make one yourself). A properly designed box with a quality sub (even if it's just one 10") and a nice amp will definatley outperform the Shaker 1000 sub.
