See-through paint?

See-through paint?
Ok, a few weeks ago it was really sunny out and I noticed something really odd. Above the rear window I could see through the paint and see the metal behind it. This is really hard to explain. It wasn't a reflection or shadow, you could see the metal but the black paint at the same time. Has anyone else noticed this?

RE: See-through paint?
Maybe we have another new superman on our hands??
If paint isnt applied heavy enough you can see through it to the primer. I have seen it on poor factory paint colors on light metalics that dont cover well. You can see hints of primer color sometimes under very light metallic blue, golds, silvers.
But not common at all. More common in older cars. And never with black.
If you have ever shot black paint. It is very hard not to get good coverage.

Same thing happened to my trunk lid. It looked like oxydization. I took it back to the dealer (keep in mind your paint is covered under warrenty for 12 months (page 6 in the warrenty book i believe), they repainted

I also have this same exact problem on my trunk lid near the spoiler. It is hazy spot that I thought was uneven clearcoat application? i never took it in and i guess i'm past the warranty (16 months of ownership).

RE: See-through paint?
Yeah dude that can happen. I work in a ford paintshop and we get weierd stuff like that all the time. Mostly it was peeling of the 00-04hoods. But a lot of the new f-150s are coming in with transparent spots in the paint. Ford didn't really go all out with using materials. But yeah man if you take it to your dealer it wll bepaited free under warranty.
