Default remote shifter

i was discussing the 05 mustang in the chat with aliate x and he told me it has a remote shifter. at first i was like wtf, but then i saw that it really did. only thing is he is saying it's computer controlled and when you shift, its just you telling the computer to do it. i'm pretty sure this is wrong and that it just means there is extra linkage like shown in this picture of the 05 tri ax.

remote means it's just not mounted on the tranny in this case. who's right here?

If he IS right, than there must be different kinds of remote shifters, because from what I know, remote linkage is used on bigger trucks where the shifter is not linked to the transmission in any way, just to a spring.
