Default How do I clean the electronic throttle?

All of my previous carsuse throttle cable, so I was able to just push the cable and clean the throttle. But the new Mustangs use electronic throttle, so is it safe to just push the butterfly valve manually?

My car has 4500 miles now, when am I supposed to clean the throttle?

Just like a cable driven throttle body there is a throttle position sensor on our throttle bodies. Just open the blades manually for cleaning, it'll be ok. Personally, I wouldn't clean the throttle body until it needs it. Get a spray can of throttle body safe cleaner, spray it on a shop rag and then wipe any oily residue from the body and blades. It's best not to spray the cleaner directly into the intake. When you've got it cleaned up just re-attach your intake tube and you're good. I typically do this every other year or sooner if I notice build up.

Blades? Just want to be clear, you mean the butterfuly valve? Should I disconnect the battery so it won't screw up the sensor?

No need to disconnect the battery. Just disconnect the MAF sensor controlwire molex connectorgoing to the MAF sensor. Slide the red piece back, then pull the connector off.

As stated above spray the cleaner on a rag and then use the rag to clean the throttle body and butterflys. The butterflys will open manually by pushing on them from the top. There are groves that the butterflys close against, make sure you clean those also.

You wil probably notice a difference right away when you drive.
