Stupid Question - What does a tune involve?
So I have a question because after reading different posts and talking to a few friends who are expereinced with mods and so fourth, I am a bit confused.
What exactly is a "tune" and what does it do for your performance?
I have a CAI and SLP Loudmouths and am looking for a tune, apparently it is important after these modifications(?). I prefer to keep to 87 octane but wouldn't mind going to 91 if it helps.
What all is involved in a tune?
I heard Brenspeed is the way to go buy what am I getting and how to I apply it to my vehicle?
Sorry if this is a stuipd question, I am just new this this and prefer to do it right.

RE: Stuipd Question - What does a tune involve?
Along the same lines I see a lot of post about people with “tune†problems, e.g. won’t pass emissions, tuner device problem, blown fuse, cant load original tune back in, lost original tune, pre-ignition, dealer flashed memory and now need new tune. What’s up with all these deals?

RE: Stupid Question - What does a tune involve?
a tune is like a .cfg file, for a pc operating system.
when you change things (mods) on your car, you need a
way to change the .cfg file, so the operating system can
be aware of it's environment.
to upload a tune into your car, you use a handheld device
plugged into the car's obdII port, under the steering wheel.

Here a couple links that might help you out a little bit
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=16964

Basically you want to get a CAI/tune combo from B amachips, Brenspeed VMP or EVO or visit you local dyno shop for a custom dyno tune. The dyno should give you the best possible results. The "canned" tune that come preload on the tuners that you can get from summit and jegs or places like that arent nearly as good as from the Vendors mentioned above. The tune/cai combo is the best and first mod that should be done in almost everyones opinion. The problems mentioned above are very very uncommon and really you do not need to worry about it. Hope this helps a little.

Are there shops or can Ford apply the tuning code I would buy from brenspeed.com? I don't want to spend 300+ dollars on the equipment... yet.
