Power Adders: How many miles before KaBoOm
Ok so this topic is a bit controversial or taboo since I know a lot of people especially those of us running way over the 450RWHP Max that everyone talks about so lets talk about it.
Ok I would like to know who has a power adder and how many miles you have on it with how much power and torque. If you grenaded your car put down your HP level and put down how many miles you had it before it let go. I'm trying to proove or disprove the 450RWHP Max theory. You dont have to put the manufacture if you dont want to. We all know we have weak conecting rods and pistons and that this is the weak link in our blocks no news here. But who says 450RWHP is the limit? I've been running well beyond this limit for 8 months now and no issues.
I would like to hear from anyone that has real world proof not just stories about why 450RWHP is 450 and not some other numbers. I dont remember reading this in my manual. Who came up with this magical number and where is the proof. DONT SHOOT THE MESSENGER I'm just trying to find information.
1) Power Adder: Power HouseTurbo
2) Months since power adder: 8
3) Miles since power adder: 7000
4) RWHP: 480 RWTQ 515 11PSI car at 13PSI makes 523RWHP 563RWTQ but I need to upgrade my fuel pumps before I go there.
5) Still running
Just to note I got back from my tuner on Monday and car was running really rich. So at 11PSI car is now making 492RWHP and 525RWTP 18 degrees timing afr 10.8-11.2 on the Dyno. But up untill Monday my car was making 480RWHP 515RWTQ and that's what I've been runing for the last 7-8 months.
I know some of you have had the misfortune of grenading your cars. But I would like to take aquick lookjust to see the numbers.

RE: Power Adders: How many miles before KaBoOm
OK, I'm game:
KB 8lbs boost
433RWHP/399tq
Been on 14 months, about 14,000miles
About 15 dragstrip runs
Rev limiter at 6800--hit it plenty of times with full boost
Generally drive like a fool every chance I get (man I hate high gas prices!)

RE: Power Adders: How many miles before KaBoOm
Whipple 11lbs boost
452RWHP/444tq on 91Oct. Now running 94Oct gaswith an extra 2 degrees spark so probably another 20hp on a good day
Been on2 months so I'm feeling my way forward as well
Rev limiter at 6300--hit it a few times in 1st/2nd but try to stay away from it
I am very happy to hear that Dave's limiter is at 6800 and he hasn't blown it to pieces yet, bodes well for those with a more conservative limit.

RE: Power Adders: How many miles before KaBoOm
1) Power Adder: Vortech HO
2)When added: March 2007
3) miles since power adder: 3800
4)RWHP: 430-450 depending on tune
5) still running with not a hint of trouble
6) times bounced off limiter: more than I would like to admit

THERE really isn't any "magic number", if there was, the NASCAR boys, would have figured it out, before all their sanctions back in the 80's......... so would the NHRA ......(certain divisions ran ALL stock)
As far as your situation goes, keep on building, that "stock motor",......until it "lets go",....... then you'll KNOW,......... and you can answer your own Question............Won't you ?
Really, unless you are a ProRacer, racing for Profit......... WHO really cares ?
IFyou wanna be the fastest on the street, with a guarantee of NO engine failure. GO FOR IT.
Lil' tip for you,............ anytime youexceed, or get close to 425 RWHP, on a3V 4.6,........you run a very high risk of "internal bottem failure", early, ......... and /oreventually.
Those internals WILL not handle the Aftermarket MODS for a LONG time.
