If you had $1,700 and a stock GT what would you do?

Okay,
I originally thought I'd have about 7-800 bucks for my 'stang, but Uncle Sam has been good to me and I'm getting a really nice refund (well, really nice to me anyway). After bills and the wife, I'm going to end up with 1,700 bucks.
What sorts of mods would be good to get with this sort of budget. I don't have many tools and I'd be getting someone else to be doing the work so factor that in too. I'm looking for raw performance and no NOS.
Damn, I'm happy.

How about a 12 sec. car for 1,000???
go to this link and read all about it and check out the top of the line kit:

The 12 sec. car is nice, but it has really low gears and they cut the hydrocarbon traps (or whatever theyr'e called) out. The other mods I wouldn't mind though. I have seen and read about it. I think that the gears have alot to do with the 12 seconds. More-so than the other mods. That's just my take on it thought...I'm no mechanic.

Hey I'm a programmin nerd to! Anyways, I have a lot of exprience with SOHC engines and I have found that they love to breathe. Since these engines do not have pushrods their flow dynamics are more efficient than a classic engine.
Put some headers on, the JBA's look good. Your throttle body size is perfect, the restriction is the size of the air cleaner. Try ordering a larger diameter K&N air filter and cramming it in somehow.
Finally, if you are a true computer nerd... that computer is just begging for some interfacing. There should be an aftermarket interface out there that will let you plug and monitor the motor using your laptop. Just look for '04 parts since the parts guys will be resistant to selling '05 computer parts.
Actually... if you could put a LSD in your mustang you would be rockin! That would give you the grip you are so deseperately needing to get lower times.

4.10 gears, aftermarket mid-pipe, shifter, xcaliber tuner & a CAI kit
thats way less than $1700 but after you add installation it'd be right around there. You'd also be running high 12's

I was thinking about it eariler, and have changed my mind, what I said before is not what I would do.If it were me I would go with a set of JBA headers,Steeda CAI,and the SCT X-Calibrator.This will really make the engine breathe, therefore yeilding better m.p.g's,h.p and, tq! Which is just all around good!

One thing I would certainly do, especially if you have any mods done already..
GET A TUNE~
We found almost 20rwhp and 15rwtq on my 02 Z06. It has headers, high flows, borla, larger Tbody, and cold air induction. Found out that it was running waaaay rich on the high side.
Whatever mods I do in the future, I'll be sure and have a tune done with it.

I will definitely be getting programmer. I've been looking into the headers but I need to know how much they'd cost to install. Do you have to lift the engine to install them? Do they require welding...etc
Thanks for the suggestions. This board is great!!

Go back to your exhaust shop. If they can't do it, they will recommend someone. Secondly, you will be amazed at what a Ford dealer will do now days. Call your salesman and ask him.... I am always very friendly to my car salesman for this reason. In fact, I tipped my salesman everytime he escorted me through service work on my other vehicles. This got work done for much cheaper than it should have been.
