Default bad luck.... insurance

So i was driving on a riped up road that was under construction and i guess something that was ripped up was left on the road. i didnt see it until it was to late and went over it . it ended up damaging my rack and pinion. the funny thing is that it was so small that it didn't even hit the front bumper. my question to you guys is this..... when i had some finacial issues i had my insurance with 1000 deductiable to lower my payments. then i had never switched it back. i was wondering if i was to switch the deductible to 500 and make the claim like a day or two later...... would they catch on? would this get me into some try of troble? thanks guys

Since what's on the internet is forever searchable, it might not be a good idea to ask about committing insurance fraud. I know that's not what you want to hear, but it would be for your own good.

Troble? Yea, you got it if you do that. To lower your deductible, you will need to take your car in for examination.

most of the time you would have to have the car looked at when lowering your deductable. Also, this would be insurance fraud...man-up and just pay for it.

Two things to keep in mind. 1) will the cost of the repairs exceed your deductible? 2) When you make a claim, it typically goes into a formula. If you have multiple claims, your premiums will go up. Making a claim right now for something small, could presumably cause your premiums to go up in excess of what you paid to have the car fixed.

You'd have to check but I wouldnt think a new rack would be more than $150-$300 plus install.
