ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?

RE: ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?
I would have to agree. But if it was an older model it would be a Bullitt or Cobra. My brother has a Bullitt and I like driving it when I can. I currently have a V6 and I like it alot.

RE: ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?
Having had an SN95 5.0 GT, I say: "Stay away!". Horrible shifter position, a seating position that is way too high, less interior room, horribly rattly interior, better plastics can be found in Tupperware, etc...
Unless you go Terminator, it's best to stay S197. And if you are interested in a Terminator, ask yourself what your realistic goals are with the car and if you will actually achieve them. Otherwise, you'll be happier day to day with the S197 platform.

RE: ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?
I love my 07 GT but somedays I wish I bought an 03-04 cobra. If you want to go crazy fast this is the way to go. If I bought one I would mod it to about 500-600 rwhp and drive it everyday (mods probably cost less than 6k total). Wanted a sonic blue coupe and powdercoat the wheels black chrome. Would be sweet. Actually thought about selling the 07 to buy an 04 but just cant justify it. I hear you on finding a good cobra can be hard. My thought was always to get one at carmax. They wont sell one that has been modified and they are supper picky about what they sell on the lot. That would be your best chance.
But I am happy with the 07, much better looking, nicer interior, better build quality, but not near as easy to make crazy power. Installing a whipple with an 8lb pulley looking to make 420-440 rwhp next year.
My other thought was to buy a blue 93 cobra and mod the heck out of it too, so I am always a dreamer just need more $$$.

I'm one of the few on here who says that older Mustangs were better built and more reliable than the current S197 line. I had an '89 and an '04 before my current S197, and both of those older Mustangs exhibited far better quality and fewer problems. According to the clear evidence on this very forum, the S197 is plagued with at least the following problems:
[ul][*]fueling & fuel tank problems[*]front end thunk[*]water leaks[*]faulty a/c compressors[*]faulty fuel pumps[*]persistent noises & rattles (around windows, from exhaust hangers, etc.)[*]poor quality audio systems[*]poor quality leather on front seats (if you have this option)[/ul]
Unfortunately, my05 GT is thepoorest quality Ford I've owned in many years.

RE: ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?
Your 2004 was the end of the model run. It had the benefit of experiencing the sum total of all platform fixes since 1994 (10 years).
Your 1989 also had the experience of over 9 years of the Fox platform.
Your 2005 was the first model year for the S197.
I thought my 95 GT was fairly poorly made (though I loved it). The leather was of no better quality than the pleather in our 2007.
I could have sworn that even back them they were 'leather seating surfaces', and not 100% leather on the entire seat.
So far our 2007 has been very solid and the chassis is far more solid than the '95 GT I had even with bracing and subframe connectors ever was.
Mustang just won the JD Power 'Best Sporty Car in Initial Quality' Award as well for what that's worth.

RE: ARE WE BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONES?
Eek, not sure if I'd ever trade a newer car for an older car. Not a good idea... More miles, problems, etc. Also, the new look is gone. Speed may be important to you and 5% of the people on the road, but the other 95% will see an old car and nothing more.
I always say stick with the newest no matter what.

Huh?!

The S197 is better on every level. Especially the shock towers, front suspension.
Don't bother with the older models.
Besides, 94/04 looks too close to a Japmobile IMO. Nothing retro about it.
Except for the Terminators, they suck power wise, even the Cobras.
Nope, S197 all the way for me.

Huh what??
Don't tell me thatyou're impressed with the performance of the N/A Cobras? Not talking about Cobra Rs and Terminators here.
