Try the Bug and Tar remover first, if no luck then try SoftScrub. That's about as harsh as I would go on my paint.

What's the difference between a normal clay bar andwhat I've tried though?

Here's a link to Turtle Wax ICE Liquid Clay Bar
http://www.turtlewax.com/main.taf?p=2,1,1,4

Here's link to Meguiars Clay Kit
http://www.meguiars.com/?auto-detail...rface-Clay-Kit
I've tried them both andthere is a big difference in results. The clay bar just removes a ton more gunk from your paint than the liquid clay does. And actually I found the clay bar less effort to use than the liquid clay. Just spray on the detailer spray from the kit, rub the clay bar around on the area you're working on and wipe the spray off when it's done.

I removed a spray mask residue on my hood (that the body shop left on it)with the clay barthat I previously tried to remove with water, isopropol alcohol, watered-down vinegar andUn-Du (like goo-gone). None of these methods made any kind of progress at all but the clay bar took every bit of it off the paint.

I have used a razor blade with great success on glass to get rid of really, really hard water deposits that refuse chemical remedy. Obviously, that doesn't work well on paint.

I guess I'll try the Meguiars Clay kit.

I do have some bug and tar remover somewhere in the garage. I also have razor blades

Thanks guys, if I get around to it, I'll try it out this weekend and keep you posted.

You could always wet sand the car. If you have never done this, get it done by a body shop.
That's what was in plan if the medium-cut didn't work. And I really hope it doesn't lead to this.

If you can't find your bug & tar remover, grab a can of WD-40....it's just about the same thing. It won't hurt your paint either. A friend's new truck was spray painted by some punks. I told him to use WD-40 and rub it off. It took it off and didn't mess up his paint.

When you clay, move the clay from front to back, never in a circular motion.

Bar Keeper's Friend from Wal-Mart (gold can, in the laundry aisle) will remove water spots from glass. DO NOT get it on your paint.

Well, NO luck.

Tried the Meguiars clay kit. It works a little, but you have to scrub like a mother.....literally spray, clay, wipe, spray, clay, wipe.....over and over the same spot nearly a dozen times, and there's still signs of hard water. I will not be doing this to the entire car.

Also tried the Bug and Tar remover.........waste of time.

Bar Keepers Friend is basically Comet.......BKF did not phase the windows.

Looks like I'm stuck with masking the car off, and buffing with Medium Cut Cleaner................unless anybody else has more ideas.
