Default Engine light, Temp Light, Temp HOT, WHAT JUST HAPPENED?!?!

So, I am driving along this afternoon and cruising. I go to pass someone and I have limited power, like I'm on 3 cylinders and my car is bogging down and not moving. I look down at the guages and the CEL is on, my Temp Needle is MAXED out, and Temp light is on. I coast over into a parking lot. Park the car, pop the hood, and nothing noticeable is going on. Its not over heating, it's got water. I shrug my shoulders and walk back and start the car. And it starts up like nothing happened. Of course the CEL is still on, I just haven't had time to pull the code.

Anyone think what may have happened here? I have an idea but will reserve my opinion in order to not skew any other opinions.

Thanks...

That's odd. I'll let everyone else work on the problem but it is skew, not scew.

Sorry, had to do it. Hope you get this figured out.

Did the thermostat stick closed for a bit? Heat increased and the CPU sensed pinging or a knock and threw the code and when you shut it down and restarted it returned back to normal? Am I right? If so what do I win?

The car might have been overheating. If it felt down on power then the engine went into limp mode and in fact it does run on 4cylinders alternating sides pumping air, it ensures the engine does not warp as its all alu.

Like suggested above, the thermostat sounds like it was stuck.

Yup, that's exactly what I thought it was. I had only read about limp mode... I had never experienced it. For 30 seconds though I thought it was done!!! Seems to fine now, we'll just see what happens and I will pull the code today when I get more time.

Its amazing what the owners manual contains......LOL

BTW; I would get the car checked out. a 12dollar thermostat can cost you an engine if it really got stuck.

The owners manual tells all about what you encountered in detail.
Overheat mode. Have that puppy looked at pronto.

P-1299 was the code... I make an appointment later to get it looked at. It's parked for now.

So, yeah, I would be willing to say it's a thermostat problem. I will replace it tomorrow...
