Default I should have listened! Exhaust issue... (videos added)

I've read a lot of posts about how Flowmasters don't sound good with an off road h or x pipe. Then I was at a car show a couple weeks ago and listened to a guy that had Flows with an off road h and thought it sounded awesome. So I went and ordered the pypes o/r h (I already had the Flowmasters). When I first heard the car reved up (from the outside) I thought it sounded awesome. Then I heard it on the dyno and thought the same thing!

Then as I was driving home from the shop that did the install and dyno tune, I realized that I didn't like the way it sounds. At idle, it sounds great. Standing behind the car, it sounds great. But when I'm driving and the rpm's are between 2,200 and 3,000 RPM, it sounds like crap. It makes a sound that I can only describe as sounding like something is rattling. Once the rpm's are above 3,000 or so it goes away.

What would cause it to make this sound? What options do I have to get rid of it? I want to keep the h-pipe, so if I went back to my stock mufflers, would that go away? I don't really want to spend another $500 on a different set of axle backs either. What about the pypes violators? This is probably the first "mod" that I've done as an impulse and the first one that I've done that hasn't worked out as I had hoped.

Chris,
Look in the classified section. Someone is selling the magnaflow center exhaust for $100....then all you have to get is some pretty exhaust tips for the rear and have someone weld it all up. They would sound mean.

the rattling makes me believe something is loose in your exhaust.

it's not an actual rattle (I checked, everything is nice and tight), but that was the best way to describe the sound

so you mean like a raspyness?
i think your only solution is to change the axle backs. those SSS ones sound pretty good.

The inside welds have been know to come apart.Or they rust out from the inside. This has been documented in the last several years of Flowmaster units for the s-197's. You might take one off and shake it,see if any come out or rattles.

or try bang it w/ your hand while the muffler is still on and see if it rattles.
anyways i would change the axle backs whether it rattles or not.

I think you may be experiencing the Flowmasters "resonance". I have it as well even with my LT's. Best thing I can tell ya is that you don't hear it at all from outside the car LOL. Downside is that there is not a fix for it that I am aware of.
