cams worth it?

cams worth it?
i was thinking about buying cams, but was told that they would be worthless unless i was going to change the rest of the internals, heads, manifold, etc. by the way has anyone seen the new c&l intake manifold?

i'd say wait for cams until you have pretty much figured out what you're going to do with the rest of the performance mods. there are specific cams for supercharged applications that will get you more power and some used for stock motors with bolt ons. i've thought about cams but i'm waiting until i can finish up the motor with a supercharger first then going with the right set of cams to go along with it.

It is best to figure out exactly what you want to do, but here is what Dave @ Brenspeed told me recently when I asked about the Comp Cams ***** Thumprs and superchargers:
Today's variable cam timing allows a lot more flexibility in choosing
your camshaft. I would say at this point there is very little need for a
specific "blower grind" like what was needed in the past. I have seen the
Thumper cams (127-020) make as much as 30 RWHP with our Saleen kits. The
stage two (127-550) cams are very radical and a bit of an over kill unless
you plan on a short block upgrade as well.

i wouldnt say they're worthless. if you compare it to a full exhaust setup, the price is pretty comparable, maybe even cheaper than the exhaust, for the parts at least. but best to do like SirKnightTG said, and figure out your complete plan first, having a plan is always good. sticking to that plan is much more difficult.
