Fake Gas Cap/Emblem Thing on the Trunk...

Is the fake gas cap just stuck on with adhesive or would there be holes left in the trunk id it were removed?

crescent_wrench 09-26-2009 10:00 AM

I was wondering the same thing as I'm not a fan of it.....looks big, fake and cheap to me.

SMiller 09-26-2009 10:02 AM

That is a great question, I was wanting to take the 4.6 emblems off and no one could ever figure out if there were two holes in the fender or not. I don't like the big thing on the trunk lid. It will be interesting to here what others have to say. You might call Roush since they make one as well, see if they say that it just sticks on or if there are alignment holes.

It's just stuck on there. You should be able to get it off by heating it up with a hair dryer or heat gun, then pull.

SMiller 09-26-2009 02:37 PM

Man I hope you are right, guys went back and forth on the side emblems with no right answer, I was just at a car show and seen a mustang that didn't have it and he had pictures with a lot of bodywork where it had been, almost like he had to fill some holes in. The owner wasn't around or I would have asked him.

Hoofprint 09-26-2009 02:44 PM

I was just behind a non 2010 (05-09) and it had a key hole on it to unlock the trunk...mine doesn't have that...maybe that was the reason for the body work(?)

Holes behind the emblems on the fenders (see pics)
and alignment holes behind the FAUX gas cap as well
Take it from me. HOLES, HOLES, HOLES.
How do you think the assembly line workers align
the emblems and FAUX gas cap?
By eye? Dont tink toe.

My fenders dont have holes as it is a non-PP V6. :)

The 2010 rear emblem does leave holes. I had to remove it when installing deck lid panel.

That's sucks! Thanks for all of the replies. What oprions are out there for a replacement emblem?

Check out these items on ebay.com:
# 300350251754
# 290352559364

I wish they came in a different background color. But that's my opinion, though.

disclaimer: I'm not the seller, not associated with the seller, nor do I endorse these products. I just happened to find them on a similar hunt for replacement.

I wonder if they are the same size, if so then still to big.

the ebay thing is just stickers. wonder what Ford was thinking when they designed the 2010 rear medallion, I mean geez you could bake a personal pan pizza on that thing :P

Hoofprint 09-26-2009 07:21 PM

I dont know what they were thinking but the thing needs to go...I am on a mission to either have it completely removed or replaced

Maybe Ford was thinking that you would remove it and have a pan for baking a personal pan pizza. :icon_shrug:

That's about the funniest thing I've heard in weeks, dead serious.

And worst of all, it's true. That GT emblem just "honks" at you when looking at it from the rear.

VistaBlue GT 09-26-2009 08:08 PM

Guys you could remove it and put the black out panel on and stick a GT emblem on it that's prolly what I would do.

SMiller 09-26-2009 08:13 PM

Screwed and double screwed...

Those are fugly. Looks like something you'd find on a 60s lowrider.

circle emblem in the back trunk

why dosent someone make a rear cover that covers the HOLE back there, as in solid all the way across. then just fill in the emblem holes with epoxy so water can't get in.....WHY!

I'm was thinking of blanking it out completly (i.e., just remove the whole thing.)

But the cost to fill in the holes (I believe there are 2) and have it professionally paint matched and clear coated would be prohibitive (albeit they are only 2 tiny little holes) compared to just finding a nicer size/looking emblem.
