GT500 vs saleen vs 11' GT
My twin brother will be coming home in several months after being badly injured in iraq, he has a lot of money saved and is thinking about one of these 3 cars. I have a few questions.
Ok, so we like the style of the 05+ Saleen, think it looks even better than a gt500, but is the motor forged? Are there any easy mods for huge HP gains? What is the ACTUAL seen 1/4? I guess I have the same questions for the 08 and older GT500's except I know they run 12.8 stock and gains come fast. Lastley how do you think this would compare to the 11' gts?

Id say for the money just get a nice UNMODDED GT500, suspension is great and the engine with just a tune smaller pulley and intake can yield 60+ HP, If you want looks check out the BLACK JACK roush .... Tell ur brotha from one service member to another, Best of luck in recovery and hope all goes well ! We Salute him !

I have an 06 Saleen Supercharged car. It comes stock with 435hp, 420 ft.lbs of torque. While the GT500 comes with about 60 more ponies, the engine does weigh quite a bit more. The 4.6 liter in the Saleen is not forged unless you have a Saleen extreme which comes with 550hp stock.
For about $899 I can get a different pulley, injectors, and tune and be at 475-485 hp, and another 250-300 for a new air intake for around 500hp. Not sure what the mod cost/potential is on the Gt500.
I dont know much about the '11 GT or what its pricing options will be on the 5.0. Power adders will range from air intakes-superchargers, but again, I don't know the cost.
A stock Saleen of the 05, 06, 07 years should be around the 12.6 area in the quarter with a good driver and track conditions. I know of an 05 that ran a 12.68 or so.

The shelby will respond the quickest to mods and muscle mustang & fast fords ran a 12.3 at 117 stock when they first came out...now granted thats not common but it has been done...also the stock shelby engine can handle 700+rwhp whereas the saleen will be pushing it at 500...as for the 2011 its too early to tell what its power potential will be and what kinda times it will run...I would venture to say with a good driver and some DRs or slicks it will be low 12s stock based on its power levels and being that its a 4V it will respond very well to mods as well but wont be ideal for FI application because of the compression

^^^agreed...You can pick up a low mileage 2007 in the low 30s or less...my finance director at my work bought a loaded Nav '07 with 2100 miles on it...white with blue stripes, lowered on shelby 20s, painted aggressive chin spoiler, lower black plastic side skirts and bottom of rear bumper painted to match the rest of the car, FRPP Short Throw Shifter, Magnaflow A/B, Evolution Performance Stage 2 setup with 622rwhp for $37000...badass car

Service member here...3 times in Afghanistan...purple heart and all that. I feel for your brother, hope he recovers quick!
I really like the Saleens! That are rare cars, they are serial numbered, and look really nice. However, the normal Saleen Supercharged will not come anywhere close to a mildly modded GT500 in a drag. The suspension in the Saleen is slightly better than a stock GT500, but that's just an upgrade away. So HP wise, you'd have to go Saleen Extreme, but then you're looking at like 10K over the price of a GT500!!
The GT500 is heavier no doubt, but with the engine having so much more displacement it's hard for the Saleen to keep up. Even the Saleen Extreme with the forged internals is only a 5.0 engine. The GT500 is a 5.4 and capable of 800RWHP from factory, change the pistons and rods and good for over 1000RWHP. Also you have to consider that the GT500 can get a get the following size superchargers: 2.3, 2.8, 2.9, 3.4, 4.0, and soon to come 3.6 and 4.2Ls. For an amazing number of choices.
I think overall that for style and looks the Saleen would be the way to go. If you have money to burn I would go with the Saleen Extreme. But if you want all out horsepower and speed you have to accept that the GT500 can't be beat. You can pick one up on Ebay for like, mid 30's...so out of all of them, you can pick up a used GT500 for prob the cheapest too, and usually with only a few thousand miles (less than 10k).
I'm hoping the best for your brother!

does your brother like roush's? i remember seeing a shootout between the roush 427R and the top of the line saleen. out of 6 tests roush won 5 of the 6. and ontop of that the roush has a 10k less on the sticker price.

A fit out 2011 Mustang GT with some bolt on mods, aftermarket 93 octane tune and a full track suspension with some weight removal, should yield 380rwhp( 440HP) and still weigh 3605lbs or less after suspension upgrades. It will be 320lbs lighter than the GT500, have a much better engineered front/rear weight balance, better aerodynamics, and be as fast as than the GT500. It's a better quality car than the previous GT500s, and will be far better at road racing, and any cornering activity than the GT500.
Of course I realize that most everyone here is a drag racer, and will defend the pig like GT500, and the way overpriced Saleens, so please ignore everything i just said. Erik
