Default Idle problem?

she has been doing this for a month or so, when i come to a stop the engine seams to race a little then the rpms drop down to about 500 then back up then down again it does tjis a couple of times then it settles in at normal idle, no hesitation when i take off or during normal driving it only does it when i come to a stop, buy the time the light is green she is back to normal idle and every thing is fine. The only thing on the engine not stock is a K&N drop in air filter.

I would try cleaning the throttle body first. Dirty throttle bodies have been known to cause a rough idle, but I'm not sure to the extent that you are describing. It's easy though, so might as well try that first......

Ditto to what Hag said.

If you don't have cams I would say your throttle body is dirty.
Get some TB cleaner and make SURE it says it is safe for cars with TB liner in it. Our cars have a lub lining that you do not want to eat away.

You can either try just spraying or you can take the whole TB off and clean the entire thing.

Dont use TOO much spray if you leave it on. You don't want a crapload of that stuff being sucked in your engine.

Mine does the exact same thing. When I come to a stop light or stop sign, the idle revs up to (1000 - 1500 RPM) by itself. I have to hit the gas pedal in order for it to go back down. It does not happen all the time, just on ocassion. I recently cleaned my throttle body and the throttle response is better, however it did not resolve the issue. My next step is to get some CRC Mass Air Flow cleaner and clean the MAF sensor and see if that helps.

Yup Yup the MAF being dirty can do it as well.

No problem! I plan on cleaning the MAF sensor this weekend as well.
Hoping it does the trick. ;-)

+1 on cleaning the MAF and TB before doing anything else. FYI, a K&N drop-in filter is useless with regards to performance. Not only will a good CAI & custom tune provide a substantial RWHP gain, it will most likely resolve your hunting idle issue if the cleanings don't take care of it.
